ZEN: Relaxing, pleasurable, or mysterious experiences, or more generally, being in the moment.
We will be painting The Buddha...playing and layering colors with acrylic paints, working with alcohol and acrylic inks to create vibrant color, adding molding paste for texture, and adding the final touches with gold, silver and copper leaf.
This is not a high-energy "paint & sip", paint-by-numbers, learn how to paint nor creating a beautiful piece of art.
This is a process - a journey. This is about learning to "let go" and trusting your inner guide to awaken or deepen your relationship with your spontaneous self. Play with paint and exercise non-attachment! The art is in the letting go! No experience with drawing or painting is necessary. There is no such thing as a mistake.
We'll begin with a two minute meditation on Gratitude to tap into your own inner Buddha.
Through a guided process, you will start your painting by layering colors freely on a 12" x 16" (or if you prefer Smaller Works of Art - 5" x 5") white blank canvas, using high quality acrylics. Art, like life and any experience, is a build up of layers and moments.
As you become more comfortable and connected to your free and expressive self, you will be guided on drawing the outline of your Buddha's face. You can follow my instruction or feel free to go in your own direction and create whatever version that appeals to you. Different samples of Buddha paintings will be there for you to refer to. This is not a technical step by step painting class.
Once you have finished drawing the outline of your Buddha's face, and adding more colors and layers to your painting, you'll start to see your Buddha come forward. If you choose, for an unique effect, you may add alcohol and acrylic inks to create vibrant color, metallic, molding paste for texture and gold, silver and copper leaf. When your layers are complete, you will add the final little touches.
Be open, have fun and see where it takes you! You'll go home with your own unique artwork and one day when you see your Buddha painting hanging on your wall, you may even hear two little words whisper.... "Let go."
